Louis Walsh opens up about his "darkest hour"

X Factor judge and pop manager Louis Walsh says he still has panic attacks and was `suicidal' over false allegations of sexual assault made against him in 2011.

Walsh (62) was quickly cleared of any wrongdoing after his accuser admitted to making false statements to the Gardai.

Speaking to this week's RTÉ Guide, an emotional Walsh said: "I have panic attacks still about it a little bit. I was on my way to do the Alan Carr show when I heard the story and I was suicidal, 'cause people are going to think there's no smoke without fire.

"Your name is all your have, especially working with boy bands. People are going to think . . . That was the worst thing ever in my life. I haven't been out in a nightclub since. That guy was trying to trap me and he nearly succeeded. I'll never forget it. I hate talking about it but I want you to know the real story."

Walsh also said that the experience had left him `scarred' and `weary', and he added: "My mother and family were cool about it. They didn't actually care. Simon [Cowell] rang me and he was the first person to say, `I know it's not true' and then he defended me in the press. I never let my guard down down ever since. It was a reality check for me."
