Documentary: Joanna Lumley: The Search For Noah's Ark, 9pm, UTV
In this very special programme, Joanna sets out across two continents to investigate the origins of this ancient story. Was there a global flood and where did it happen? What was the 'Ark' ship like and where is it now? Perhaps most importantly - why does this story hold such resonance and significance for people across so many religions and cultures around the world?
Joanna's epic adventure takes her from nomads on the slopes of Mount Ararat in Turkey to an ancient Sumerian flood tale on the Mesopotamian flood plain - now on the Turkish/Syrian border. In India a lost civilisation, ancient trade routes and the Hindu faith turn up more clues, as do the sinking mountain ranges and maritime history of Oman.
The twists and turns of Joanna's detective story provide a fresh perspective on how myth, legend, religion and science have come to play their part in understanding a story far older than the Bible itself. The journey to uncover the origins of one of the most enduring stories of all time, you'll find is a surprising one.
Comedy: Peep Show, 10.25pm, Channel 4
In the penultimate episode of this very funny series, Jeremy is desperate to avoid living with Superhans so he sparks up an old relationship with Mark's sister Sara, and moves in with her and her five-year-old son, Joshy. Mark, meanwhile, in an attempt to deal with a damp patch on his bedroom wall, launches a campaign to be elected chairman of the freehold committee of Apollo House. The final show of the series is on Christmas Eve.
Entertainment: All Star Christmas Presents, 6pm, Sky One
Christmas is a season of goodwill and making sure as many people as possible have a happy time. In keeping with the tradition of bringing festive cheer to one and all, Sky has enlisted the help of Sally Lindsay, who is delivering gifts to as many deserving, hardworking and selfless individuals as she can, making sure they have a very merry Christmas indeed. It's a big job and the actress and presenter will be joined by a few of her famous friends - the familiar faces are on hand to make dreams come true for those who go one step further to make a positive difference to other people's lives.
Entertainment: I've Got Your Back, 8.30pm, RTÉ One
In this brand new pilot, the former Big Brother housemate Brian Dowling presents a family game show. Each lucky contestant starts out with a €10,000 cash pot and their job is to hold on to as much of that money as they can while betting on their family's ability to answer just six general knowledge questions. The family's backs are turned away from the contestant and after the question is given, the contestant must bet the entire cash amount across the family members who they believe have the best chance of getting it right. With only six questions to get through, and €10,000 to win, whose back will the contestant choose to put the money on?! Sounds like a bit of light-hearted fun for a Sunday evening.
Music: Nollaig na Maggies, 10pm, TG4
There is a very special Christmas homecoming in store for four of Donegal's most prolific female singers - Tríona and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Moya Brennan - 'T with the Maggies'. They return to their beloved Donegal for the festive season and for one night only perform an intimate concert for their close friends and family in the spectacular setting of Glenveagh Castle. In this festive programme, these four talented and spirited Donegal women celebrate the festive season by performing some of their favourite songs and reflect on their lives, loves and losses, and their own Christmas memories. Definitely the perfect way to get into the festive mood.
