TV classic Cheers set for Irish remake

Hit American sitcom Cheers is to be given an Irish makeover.

Irish television production, Sideline Productions, has signed a deal with CBS Broadcasting, to produce an Irish version of the successful '80s show for TG4.

The Dublin based company is said to be already working on casting, script edition and translation of 275 scripts from the classic show.

The original series which ran for 11 series from 1982 to 1993, centred on the lives of regulars (Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman and Shelley Long) in a Boston bar.

Speaking to the Irish Film and Television Network, Billy McGrath, creative director of Sideline, said that the show has the working title Teach Sean.

No actors names have yet been attached to the project.
