RTÉ 2fm is launching a new hour-long sports show on its weekday schedule and Radio 1 has made changes on its evening arts and music schedule.
Game On, which starts this Monday February 4, will be presented by Damien O'Meara each week night between 7pm and 8pm. Over on RTÉ Radio 1, arts show Arena will now start at the earlier time of 7pm and run until 8pm, Monday to Friday.
Arena will be directly followed by John Creedon, who will now broadcast between 8pm and 9.50pm on weekdays adding an extra half hour to the programme.
Speaking about Game On, John McMahon, Head of RTÉ 2fm, said: "After the success of 2fm's Euro 2012 coverage last year I'm delighted we are bringing a new strand of programming to 2fm on a nightly basis.
"Sport is hugely important to so many Irish people, none more-so than 2fm's core 20-44 year old age group. By providing an entertaining, informative and expertly assembled sports programme every night, and including some great live coverage on 2fm, we are increasing RTÉ's commitment to public service programming for all audiences across RTÉ's channels."
Game On presenter Damien O'Meara added: "Game On marks a big departure for both RTÉ Sport and 2fm, and to be handed the reins of the show is both an honour and the source of great excitement. UEFA Champions League action; coverage of the Republic Of Ireland's soccer internationals; the provinces' progression in the Rabo Direct Pro 12 and much more is set to provide us with live action that is unrivalled on Irish radio. We can't wait to compliment that with the best in analysis, comment and insight into sport and the big stories as they break."
Speaking about the schedule changes on Radio 1, station-head Jim Jennings, said, "This change to the Radio 1 will see arts and music brought to the forefront of evening listening.
"RTÉ Radio 1 has always been an important platform for the arts and I'm looking forward to seeing the impact that these changes will have within the arts and music communities in Ireland; hopefully giving artists, performers, authors and musicians even more exposure than ever before on Arena and John Creedon.
"We have consistently received feedback that our listeners would like to hear more arts and music programming on the station - earlier in the schedule - and we are delighted to be able to respond to that."
