English comedian and 8 Out of Ten Cats regular Sean Lock has paid tribute to late, great Irish comedian Dave Allen.
Speaking to RTÉ Ten ahead of his dates in Dublin's Olympia Theatre in May, Lock said that he is friends with Allen's son, Ed, and was introduced to the comedian at a wedding several years ago.
"People ask me about my influences and I say all the comedians in the 1970s and Dave Allen was a massive influence and a very big influence on a lot of modern comics. I know his son Ed, I play football quite a lot with him.
"I once had the great pleasure of meeting Dave Allen at a wedding of a mutual friend and he paid me a massive compliment. Ed said to me `My dad wants to meet you'. I had been on the telly and Dave had seen it and he said he thought I very funny. It was a genuine honour and compliment."
BBC Two recently commissioned a one-hour special documentary to celebrate the life and work of Allen, who passed away in 2005, aged 68.
Lock appears on tonight's edition of The Saturday Night Show to discuss his new stand-up show Purple Van Man which he takes to The Olympia Theatre on May 21 and 22.
