This week on The Hit, the king of hobo chic Duke Special battled it out against three-time Eurovision winner Johnny Logan to find their next singles.

Duke Special, real name Peter Wilson, went with 16-year-old Aaron Hackett's "vintage inspired" song, 1969.

Speaking to co-host Aidan Power about his big win, the schoolboy said: "It's completely surreal. I'm completely overwhelmed."

On picking Aaron's song, Duke said: "Something just grabbed me about it, particularly the lyrics. It has some amazing lines."

Meanwhile, Johnny Logan went with Newlywed Alan Earls' heartfelt track Prayin'.

When asked how he felt about Johnny picking his song, the Ballybrack singer, who came home early from his Honeymoon for the show, said: "I'm absolutely shocked. I'm over-the-moon. I didn't think Johnny would go for my song. I'm just stunned.

"Johnny has done such an incredible arrangement with the track. I'm so proud."

On why he picked Alan's heartfelt song, Logan said: "It was a really really difficult decision. I would have recorded both songs if I had my way. It wasn't an overnight decision. It was something that happened over a long period of time. But, the thing about Alan's song Prayin' is that I understood the song from the very beginning.

"It gave me room to let loose and I immediately heard Linkin Park in my head. I wanted to remain as true to the song as I possibly could. I was looking for a song I could relate to and Alan's song had it for me."

Despite rapping in the middle of the song, 59-year-old Logan admitted "Snoop Dogg Logan, I am not."

The single which has charted the highest will be announced live on RTÉ 2FM on Friday August 16.

Both songs are also available on iTunes now.
