Bidding on a portrait of Dublin singer Glen Hansard will start at $15,000 ahead of the Oscar Wildes, the annual 'Irish Oscars' to be held in Hollywood next week.
The portrait by Irish artist Colin Davidson from the Oliver Sears Gallery in Dublin opens for bidding on eBay in the run-up to the Oscar Wilde Awards, which will be hosted by Star Wars director JJ Abrams and will take place before the Oscars in Los Angeles to honour "the creative Irish".
Belfast-born Davidson is being recognised at the Oscar Wildes, which were set up by the US-Ireland Alliance, on February 19. His painting of Hansard will be displayed on the night of the awards, which see the red carpet turned green for the Irish guests.
The bidding on Davidson's painting opens at $15,000 and closes eight days from now, the day of the awards ceremony. Proceeds from the painting will be donated to the US-Ireland Alliance, a non-profit organisation working from Los Angeles and Dublin, to uphold Irish-American relations.
This year the awards will also honour Star Wars star Carrie Fisher, whose ancestors were from Donegal. TV presenter and satirist Stephen Colbert, who has ancestral links to Limerick, will be honoured alongside Davidson.
The Oscar Wildes has previously honoured Colin Farrell, Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan, Conan O'Brien, Paul Rudd and Michelle Williams.
