The 87th Academy Awards, 9.00pm RTÉ2
Last year's Oscar ceremony was TV's most-watched entertainment event in 10 years and attracted the biggest viewership since 2000, with more than 45 million viewers. The show resulted in more than one billion impressions generated on Twitter and 25 million interactions happening on Facebook on Oscar Sunday. So, maybe worth checking it all out this year for the 87th outing. There has been particularly strong movie, it has to be said, in recent months from the US, not to speak of other places. Intelligence is the dominant note, for some odd reason. Your host is the bumptiously impish Neil Patrick Harris. And below, a scene from The Grand Budapest Hotel, a hot tip for gong(s).

A Cook Abroad: Monica Galetti's France, 9.00pm BBC Two
Monica embarks on a road trip through the Jura Mountain region of Eastern France, where, for the first time in her cooking career, she spends time with food producers. She sees for herself how their passion translates into world-class ingredients. Immersing herself in a traditional way of life, she joins a boar hunt and faces up to the responsibility of eating meat. From beauty contests for cows to cutting down trees, she unlocks the secret to making some of our favourite French cheeses and discovers an ancient profession she never knew existed. Finally, on the slopes of Mont d'Or, Monica cooks up a rustic feast using ingredients she has gathered herself.

Miracle in the Marshes of Iraq, 8.00pm BBC 4
BBC Natural World documentary about the unlikely revival of Iraqi marshes, which are considered a miracle of sorts by environmental experts. The draining of the Mesopotamian Marshes occurred in Iraq and to a smaller degree in Iran between the 1950s and 1990s to clear large areas of the marshes in the Tigris-Euphrates river system. Formerly covering an area of around 20,000 sq km (7,700 sq mi), the main sub-marshes, the Hawizeh, Central, and Hammar Marshes and all three were drained at different times for different reasons. Initial draining of the Central Marshes was intended to reclaim land for agriculture but later all three marshes would become a tool of war and revenge.
