RTÉ has responded to reports that The Voice of Ireland is set to be axed, saying that a decision has not yet been made to renew the show for a fifth season.
The RTÉ Press Office issued a statement today (February 23) following reports that the station was looking for submissions to fill the 6.30pm Sunday night slot.
The statement read: "An average of 673,000 viewers watched last night's episode of The Voice of Ireland making it the most watched episode in the series to date this year. It was also the most popular show on Irish television over the weekend.
"It's RTÉ policy to look at alternatives for any returning series which has been on air for a maximum of four years. This is considered best practice as it ensures RTÉ is getting best value for money for our viewers.
"However, this does not necessarily mean that The Voice of Ireland will not be returning again next year for a fifth season. The decision on this will be made later this year."
The fourth season of The Voice of Ireland is currently airing on RTÉ One, with coaches Rachel Stevens, Una Foden, Bressie and Kian Egan, with Kathryn Thomas and Eoghan McDermott on presenting duties.
