Actress Anne Hathaway is tipped to star in a new adaptation of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew written by Abi Morgan, who wrote The Iron Lady and Shame.
Hollywood has already tackled the play, and a fine 1967 version starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The teen-oriented 10 Things About You, starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles was loosely based on The Taming of the Shrew.
Although the play will be set in Italy in the new version, it is believed that Morgan has transferred the action to the modern day, according to The Wrap.
The project is being put together by studio Universal and British production company Working Title, which partnership brought us Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Atonement and Les Miserables.
Last Sunday night, Hathaway won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her performance as Fantine in the latter film. She may very well win an Oscar next month.
However, the actress has not yet confirmed her involvement in the Taming of The Shrew film project, and no director has yet been announced.
Hathaway's next project is the forthcoming animated sequel Rio 2, in which she will again play Jewel, the Brazilian macaw she voiced in the 2011 original.
