Damian Lewis is set to play Henry VIII in the upcoming BBC Two drama Wolf Hall.
The Homeland star takes a leading role in the television adaptation which combines Hilary Mantel's award-winning novel of the same name and the sequel Bring Up the Bodies.
Mark Rylance will also star as Thomas Cromwell in the series which is due to be broadcast in 2015.
Peter Kosminsky will direct the drama from a script by Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). The story follows the rise of Cromwell from being a blacksmith's son to Henry VIII's closest advisor.
The six-part series will also feature The Promise star Claire Foy as Anne Boleyn; Sherlock's Mark Gatiss as Secretary Stephen Gardiner; Call the Midwife's Jessica Raine as Anne's sister-in-law Jane Rochford; Game of Thrones' Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Cromwell's ward Rafe Sadler.
Joanne Whalley plays Henry's first wife, Catherine of Aragon and Jonathan Pryce takes the role of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey.
Mark Rylance said of the drama: "I love it when an author, such as Hilary Mantel, does her research and discovers an original understanding of a very familiar piece of history. Even during our rehearsals her detailed imagination of the world of Thomas Cromwell is alive in Peter Straughan's ingenious and faithful adaptation.
"I have to say, after my experience on The Government Inspector, I would gladly take part in any film that Peter Kosminsky makes. His ability to grasp complex political situations and bring them to life on film seems particularly suited for this material. Myself aside, I feel he has cast Wolf Hall with a superb eye for character and all the nuanced humanity Ms Mantel's masterpieces deserve."
According to Deadline, shooting on Wolf Hall is now underway in the southwest of England.
