Damien Rice breaks cover to play a surprise gig in Whelans of Dublin as part of the venue's 25th anniversary celebrations on May 13.
Rice (40) honed his singer-songwriter schtick in Whelan's in the late nineties and early noughties and went on to enjoy considerable international success with his debut album O in 2002, which featured vocalist Lisa Hannigan and cellist Vyvienne Long.
Rice released his second album 9 in 2006 and has contributed to charitable projects such as the Songs for Tibet, Freedom Campaign and the Enough Project.
Using the stage name Dodi Ma, he was a one-time member of Juniper, the Kildare band who went on to become Bell X1.
Rice has recently been living in Ibiza and the Whelan's show will be his first Irish gig in some time.
He also plays the Seoul Jazz Festival in Korea on May 17 and the Winterthurer Musikfestwochen, Switzerland on May 23.
Tickets for Rice's Whelan's show go on sale tomorrow (May 8) at 9am from Whelanslive.com priced €25.00 and are limited to four per person.
