Jude Law is reportedly being lined up to play a fictional Pope in an upcoming TV series.
According to Deadline, the actor is in early talks to take the titular role in Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino's mini-series The Young Pope.
Sorrentino will also write the eight-episode series along with Umberto Contarello and Stefano Rulli for Sky Italia.
The story follows a fictional pope who is the first Italian-American to hold the post in history, and will take place between the Vatican City, the US and Africa.
The Young Pope's producers Wildside has compared the main character to other complex TV characters such as The Sopranos' Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), Breaking Bad's Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and House of Cards' Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey).
Law can next be seen in Paul Feig's Spy.
