Speaking to Brendan O'Connor on last night's The Saturday Night Show, Coronation Street actress Michelle Collins said she was "irresponsible" when she tweeted a plastic surgery jibe about a fellow actress.
"I'm a little bit opinionated sometimes and I get myself in trouble," Collins said during her interview on the RTÉ One talk show, adding "I said something that I probably shouldn't have said and got myself in trouble. That's all I'm saying. It was probably a little bit irresponsible."
Collins was responding to O'Connor's question about her tweets during the week about Eastenders actress Kierston Wareing. Collins wrote about "ridiculous lip jobs" on the BBC soap and called it distracting to watch.
"I don't like upsetting people, and I'm certainly not a bully," Collins said, "and so if I offended someone I really don't feel good about it... I'm not tweeting anymore - I'll leave that to the young ones!"
Asked whether she'd had a few drinks when she wrote the tweet, she replied: "No, I wish I had!"
Collins went on to talk about the perils of social media and even suggested the Coronation Street bosses encourage their actors to use social media to engage with their fans. Collins then announced she will not be using Twitter any more.
Speaking about her recent Coronation Street storylines when her character, Stella, was trapped in the Rover Return as it burned down, Collins said filming the scenes was quite traumatic as she has a history of being caught in a series of fire incidents throughout her childhood.
One of her most traumatic experiences, she explained, was being saved from a house fire when she was four years old by her year-older sister.
Collins also talked about her short-lived pop career and falling into an eating disorder between the demise of her singing career and her entry into the acting world.
