Irish journalist David Walsh, who was instrumental in exposing doping offenders in cycling, has been shortlisted for the William Hill sports book of the year award.

Walsh's book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong is a strong contender for the prestigious prize.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also been shortlisted for the William Hill sports book of the year award.

The Swedish striker is on the list for his autobiography, I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, written with the journalist and author David Lagercrantz. The book tells the story of the player's poverty-stricken childhood and the fierce sense of dedication that led to his overwhelming career success. Should he win, the Paris Saint-Germain player would become the first active player to win the coveted prize.

Winning means a cheque for £25,000, and the lucky book is announced on November 27.  The shortlisted books also include The Boys in the Boat: An Epic True-Life Journey to the Heart of Hitler's Berlin by  Daniel James Brown; The Sports Gene: What Makes the Perfect Athlete by David Epstein ; Bookie Gambler Fixer Spy: A Journey to the Heart of Cricket's Underworld by Ed Hawkins; and Doped: The Real Life Story of the 1960s Racehorse Doping Gang by Jamie Reid.
