Gugu Mbatha-Raw joins McConaughey movie

Gugu Mbatha-Raw will join Matthew McConaughey in The Free State of Jones.

The 31-year-old Belle actress will star opposite Matthew McConaughey in director Gary Ross's American Civil War film, according to The Wrap.

The movie will tell the true story of military leader Newton Knight.

McConaughey will reportedly play the Confederate solider, who tried to establish his own state in Mississippi at the height of the conflict, while Mbatha-Raw is believed to take on the role of Rachel, a slave who has a relationship with McConaughey's character.

Mbatha-Raw will next be seen in the Wachowski's Jupiter Ascending.
