The *NSYNC reunion was one of the worst kept secrets this week with rumours flying as fans' anticipation grew and when they joined Justin Timberlake on stage last night for their first performance since 2004 they did not disappoint.
The group came together during Timberlake's performance which he started off with his solo hits Sexy Back, Like I Love You, My Love, Cry My A River and Rock Your Body.
He was then joined on stage by Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick to perform *NSYNC classics Bye Bye Bye and Girlfriend.
Timberlake then finished his medley with latest tracks Suit & Tie and Mirrors.
Chat show host Jimmy Fallon then appeared on stage to present JT with the prestigious Michael Jackson Vanguard Award to which JT replied, "I don't deserve this award, but I'm not going to give it back."
He said he would share his award with his *NSYNC band-mates. "Half the Moonmen [that's the VMA gong folks] I ever won, I won with [*NSYNC] – I'm going to share this with them."
*NSYNC weren't the only memorable performance on the night however with Lady Gaga opening the show and performing her new single Applause for the first time live.
A skimpily-clad Miley Cyrus was joined on stage by Robin Thicke for a performance which included dancers dressed as giant teddy bears.
The award for most moving performance of the night would have to go to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis singing Same Love with a guest appearance from Jennifer Hudson.
Katy Perry closed the show with her latest hit single Roar underneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
