Joyce’s Finnegans Wake a Best-Seller in China

8,000 copies of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake have sold out within three weeks of going on sale.

A first edition of the lengthy novel - which in its phonetic rendering from Chinese comes out as Finnigin de Shoulingye - has sold out within three weeks of going on sale on Christmas Day, according to The Irish Times.

Given the fact that the novel presents a notoriously difficult reading experience in English, not to mind other languages, makes the runaway success all the more impressive.

"Reading Finnegans Wake is like looking at the sky, or the whole world," the novel's translator Dai Congrong told the newspaper. "It's like a garden in Suzhou, carefully arranged and selected."

It took Dai eight years to complete the work. 8,000 copies is more than double the original English language print run of 3,400 copies for Joyce's 676-page novel, which is favoured by a certain coterie of American academics, and largely neglected by the reading public. Ulysses fares far better, and very probably in Chinese too.

Oscar success on John Murray Show

Irish Oscar nominee Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly was keen to wear a dress by an Irish designer and thanks to an interview on RTÉ Radio 1's John Murray Show, her wish has been granted.

Irish designer Laura-Jayne Halton heard the interview where the film producer spoke about her Oscar-nominated Best Short Animated Film, Head Over Heels and her desire to wear an Irish dress on the red carpet.

Listen back to The John Murray Show interview

Halton told RTÉ TEN: "In the car listening to the radio, Fodhla was saying about choosing a dress, a designer and I know she hadn't really settled on one yet and she'd like an Irish designer and I thought to myself 'You know what, you've got nothing to lose!

"So back in the studio I looked up her email and I just sent her a quick paragraph to congratulate her first and sent her a link to my website and 'Look Book' and if she liked what she was looking at, don't hesitate to get in contact.

"That's pretty much how it came about and I did it, as John said, on a wing and a prayer, so you can imagine my surprise when half an hour later I'm opening an email from her stylist [Selina Mills] to say that she absolutely loved my work.

"They said 'Could you do up a few sketches?' and I did that and sent it off. By 8.30am the next morning, her stylist was on the phone to say, 'These are exquisite and we'd be delighted to have you as the designer'. I did a bit of a dance around the room!

"I haven't had much sleep since really because to make a couture gown in the space of less than five-days is pretty unheard of.

"There was probably an option to send it over to her [to Los Angeles for the Oscars on Sunday February 24]. She leaves tomorrow, Thursday, from London to go over.

"She has a whole load of luncheons and all these great parties that all these lucky nominees get to go to, so I thought I'm going to try my absolute best to get it done, I literally have been staying up until ridiculous hours and getting up thinking I'm so pale I'd scare a ghost!"

A scene from Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly's Oscar-nominated short, Head Over Heels

The designer has to keep schtum about the dress ahead of the Academy Awards: "We discussed it and she'd like to keep a little bit of suspense and mystery about it.

"It's such a brilliant occasion so we'll make the most out of it and it is nice to get a surprise. As I said to John, it's very classic and feminine, it's an approach I take with all of my design and it suits her down to a T, well hopefully! It's incredible to be doing it without having her here!"

In a fortutious turn of events, James Murphy, CEO of Lifes2Good rang the Murray show and offered to fly Laura-Jayne out to LA to personally fit the dress on Cronin O'Reilly.

Halton told RTE Ten: "When I heard the news about going I was like 'Oh My God'! James heard me on the radio and thought what a brilliant young woman Fodhla is and then he heard me and he just thought 'Wouldn't it be fantastic if Laura-Jayne could get to go'.

"It all happened so fast and I kept saying 'Feet on the ground, feet on the ground!!'

"I can't believe it; I'm going to wait until tomorrow to see if I can absorb all of this. The details aren't confirmed but [I'm going] a couple of days before the ceremony to soak up the atmosphere."

However, Halton still needs a ticket for the Oscars: "We put that out on air yesterday so I'm hoping, throw these things out to the universe and see what it throws back at you. So far, it's been working.

"They're literally like the Golden Ticket, it's probably going to be close to impossible but at the same time it's worth a try. I'll bring a dress just in case but I'm just really happy to be able to be there to help Fodhla get ready to go and get on the red carpet, to make sure the dress is perfect.

"It's great because her mum is going but obviously she's not going to know a whole load of people and to get a little bit of a back up for her that was the whole reason I was really ecstatic and she was thrilled when I told her.

"My aim in life is to meet Leonardo DiCaprio too!"

Mrs Brown: 'the audience that comedy forgot'

Brendan O'Carroll has described Mrs Brown's Boys fans as "the audience that comedy forgot" and says he has no problems recycling old gags for the hit sitcom.

Speaking to The Guardian, who describe the 57-year-old Finglas comedian as "a moustachioed Barry McGuigan lookalike", O'Carroll said, "Somebody at the BBC read in a magazine, that comedy is the new rock'n'roll. And they actually believed that, and started pitching it only to the 18-25-year-old market. And left the rest behind."

The Christmas Mrs Brown special attracted 11.7 million viewers on the BBC and over 800,000 on RTÉ, beating ratings for Downton Abbey and sitcom favourite Miranda but UK critics have not been as keen, describing O'Carroll's creation as "Lazy, end-of-pier trash . . . the worst thing [I've] ever seen." And "the worst comedy ever made . . . It is Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, but more than 10 times as crass and not as cerebral."

In response to charges that he uses second-hand gags, O'Carroll said, "I have absolutely no problem recycling old gags. The old is new if it hasn't been seen for a long time.

"And y'know, every time we have a new child, we tell them the same fairytales we were told when we were kids. And they sound great! Who gives a f***? It is what it is. There are people who will love it, and people who won't."

Boomtown Rats reform for Isle of Wight gig

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 29 Januari 2013 | 23.37

Bob Geldof is reforming pub rockers-turned-punks The Boomtown Rats for a gig at this year's Isle of Wight Festival and the band haven't ruled out doing some Irish shows.

With characteristic modesty, Geldof said, "Playing again with the Rats and doing those great songs again will be exciting afresh. We were an amazing band and I just feel it's the right time to re-Rat, to go back to Boomtown for a visit."

Geldof (mouth), Pete Briquette (bass), Simon Crowe (drums), and Garry Roberts (guitar) will play the Isle of Wight gig on June 16 as part of a line-up that also includes The Stone Roses, The Killers and the Slane-bound Bon Jovi.

Original keyboardist and talisman Johnny Fingers, who is now married and living in Japan, will not be joining the reformed line-up. Roberts and Crowe got back together as The Rats in 2008 and play occasional gigs performing Boomtown Rats songs from the first three albums.

Speaking to The John Murray Show on RTÉ Radio One this morning, founding member Briquette was pressed about the possibility of some Irish dates for the reformed Rats, Briquette said there was more than a "50% chance" of an Irish show happening.

Earlier on Morning Ireland, the band's ex-manager Fachtna O Ceallaigh, who has also looked after Sinead O'Connor among others, was asked if it was the right time for the return of the Rats.

"Well, it's the money time." he said, joking that he might have a problem "with middle aged to eldery men singing about Mary of the fourth form", a reference to the band's 1978 hit of the same name.

The Boomtown Rats were trailblazers for Irish punk and pop in the UK in the late 1970s to early 1980s. They had nine consecutive Top 20 hits in the UK were the first Irish band to hit the UK No 1, with Rat Trap in 1978.

The original line-up played their final gig in 1986, at the Self-Aid in the RDS, Dublin.

Major Corrie star to die in Street fire

One of Weatherfield's regular residents will die in a dramatic fire, it has been reported. Warning! Spoiler Alert!

Coronation Street's Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati) will meet her end in an explosive pub fire, reports The Sun.

Other popular characters will be trapped inside the Rover's Return as it goes up in flames, leaving both the pub and the Street's residents devastated.

Sunita is expected to be blamed for starting the fire by locals, who believe she planned it as revenge when her lover Karl Munro (John Michie) gets back together with Rovers landlady Stella Price (Michelle Collins).

A soap insider said: "Next thing, the pub bursts into flames - and she's on the scene. Even becoming a victim can't stop people pointing the finger. But obviously if they're wrong, then the real arsonist will still be at large."

Gulati announced her plans to leave the show last autumn to concentrate her own writing. She returned to the soap in 2009, having originally played Sunita between 2001 - 2006.

Sport and arts get a new look on RTÉ radio

RTÉ 2fm is launching a new hour-long sports show on its weekday schedule and Radio 1 has made changes on its evening arts and music schedule.

Game On, which starts this Monday February 4, will be presented by Damien O'Meara each week night between 7pm and 8pm. Over on RTÉ Radio 1, arts show Arena will now start at the earlier time of 7pm and run until 8pm, Monday to Friday.

Arena will be directly followed by John Creedon, who will now broadcast between 8pm and 9.50pm on weekdays adding an extra half hour to the programme.

Speaking about Game On, John McMahon, Head of RTÉ 2fm, said: "After the success of 2fm's Euro 2012 coverage last year I'm delighted we are bringing a new strand of programming to 2fm on a nightly basis.

"Sport is hugely important to so many Irish people, none more-so than 2fm's core 20-44 year old age group. By providing an entertaining, informative and expertly assembled sports programme every night, and including some great live coverage on 2fm, we are increasing RTÉ's commitment to public service programming for all audiences across RTÉ's channels."

Game On presenter Damien O'Meara added: "Game On marks a big departure for both RTÉ Sport and 2fm, and to be handed the reins of the show is both an honour and the source of great excitement. UEFA Champions League action; coverage of the Republic Of Ireland's soccer internationals; the provinces' progression in the Rabo Direct Pro 12 and much more is set to provide us with live action that is unrivalled on Irish radio. We can't wait to compliment that with the best in analysis, comment and insight into sport and the big stories as they break."

Speaking about the schedule changes on Radio 1, station-head Jim Jennings, said, "This change to the Radio 1 will see arts and music brought to the forefront of evening listening.

"RTÉ Radio 1 has always been an important platform for the arts and I'm looking forward to seeing the impact that these changes will have within the arts and music communities in Ireland; hopefully giving artists, performers, authors and musicians even more exposure than ever before on Arena and John Creedon.

"We have consistently received feedback that our listeners would like to hear more arts and music programming on the station - earlier in the schedule - and we are delighted to be able to respond to that."

Homeland star sets slowest ever Top Gear lap

Homeland star Damian Lewis has set a new Top Gear record with the slowest lap-time in the history of the show.

The 41-year-old actor filmed his drive earlier this month - just hours after severe snowstorms swept the UK.

Following a dramatic lap packed full of tricky moments, Lewis clocked up a time of two minutes and nine seconds.

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson told Lewis: "Realistically you were never going to set the fastest time... I have to say actually that is the slowest lap we have ever had on the Top Gear test track, but - and I'm sure everyone will agree with me on this - by far and away the most entertaining."

Lewis said: "It's quite nerve-wracking coming to do this for the first time. You think, 'What's my limit?'... When I saw the weather it was oddly relaxing."

After watching footage of the lap, Lewis laughed and added: "That was a lot of fun; it was terrific."

Neeson becomes Freeman of Ballymena

Liam Neeson has been made a Freeman of the Borough of his hometown, Ballymena, Co Antrim.

At a ceremony on Monday afternoon, the actor said it was an honour and a privilege.

He said he regretted that the ceremony did not happen 12 years ago, when it was first offered.

He declined then because of an objection by the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

He said we are living in different times now; that Northern Ireland is a changed place and he wouldn't be here if it hadn't changed.

He said he was 99% still a Ballymena man.

At the banquet following the ceremony, Liam Neeson was seated at the same table as Lord Bannside - the Revered Ian Paisley and his wife Eileen.

The ceremony was attended by many members of the Stormont Assembly and ministers in the Stormont Government.

Film-maker Éamon de Buitléar dies

The death has taken place of the wildlife film-maker, conservationist and former Senator, Éamon de Buitléar.

He was 83 and died at his home in Delgany, Co Wicklow on Sunday night.

Ireland's best known independent wildlife film-maker since the 1960s, Éamon de Buitléar also promoted the Irish language and traditional music.

A founder member of Seán Ó Riada's Ceoltóirí Chualann, Éamon de Buitléar was an accomplished musician - playing the mouth organ and button accordion - and the author of several books, including schoolbooks on Ireland's natural history and a recent memoir, A Life in the Wild.

He was appointed to Seanad Éireann in 1987, in recognition of his work on environmental issues, and to the Heritage Council and the Central Fisheries Board.

In November last year, he donated his entire archive of film, music and writings to the National University of Ireland, Galway.

He is survived by his wife, Lailli, and five children, Aoife, Éanna, Róisín, Cian and Doireann, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers.

Paying tribute, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan said: "Éamon was a wildlife conservationist and environmentalist at a time when these concepts were in their infancy in Ireland. He introduced us all to ideas which, thanks to his vision, have now become mainstream.

"He was a leader, and through his films and programmes he became a household name as he explained the importance and value of the environment and biodiversity to generations of Irish people.

"His love for Irish traditional music and the music of Seán Ó Riada, and his long involvement with music group Ceoltóirí Chualann, were also an important part of his life.

"Any person who met Éamon could only be impressed by the depth of his knowledge on the subject of biodiversity and conservation.

"In recent years he was a regular visitor at the local festival in my home village of Finuge, where a tour of the local bog was a feature of the weekend. During these visits Éamon would speak about the range of interconnected plant, animal and insect life found in the bog. These were extremely interesting talks for those of us lucky enough to be present, and especially for children, who were fascinated by him.

"I would like to express my sympathy to the family and friends of Éamon de Buitléar, especially his wife Lailli and children Aoife, Éanna, Róisín, Cian and Doireann."

RTÉ's Director-General Noel Curran said that Éamon de Buitléar "was Ireland's best-known independent wildlife film-maker, a passionate advocate for the Irish language and, as a founder member of Seán Ó Riada's Ceoltóirí Chualann, an accomplished musician. His expertise and passions were apparent in his work for RTÉ, and over the course of a long career, during which he became a household name, Éamon brought wildlife and environmentalism to the mainstream."

He continued: "Programmes like Amuigh Faoin Spéir, Ireland's very first wildlife series, had a profound influence on attitudes to our environment. In November 2012, Éamon donated his entire collection of film, music and writings to the National University of Ireland, Galway, and RTÉ was delighted to partner with NUIG to preserve the programme collection. It is fitting that the work of one of Ireland's most unique film-makers should be preserved in this way, in tribute to Éamon de Buitléar's outstanding contribution to education, to film-making, and to Irish life."

Corrie's Vera opens up about Bill Tarmey

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 27 Januari 2013 | 23.37

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, former Coronation Street actress Liz Dawn talks about her close friendship with her late co-star, Bill Tarmey.

"Bill was my best friend and I loved him dearly" Dawn explains as she talks of her fond memories of her former on-screen husband. "I will never meet anybody so kind and generous. He had the heart of a lion and I miss him terribly".

Tarmey died in November 2012 surrounded by family in Tenerife, at the age of 71. Dawn and Tarmey joined the soap in in the mid 1970's. Though Dawn left the soap in 2008, Tarmey filmed his final scenes for the soap two years later. Viewers watched him die peacefully in his armchair in November 2010.

"I am still in shock. I knew Bill wasn't well. We would talk on the phone most weeks and each time he rang it was something else. It would be his pacemaker or his breathing or his legs", Dawn explains.

"But he was so strong. He was like an ox and overcame so many issues with his health that you felt he would just go on and on forever".

Speaking about when she heard the news of Tarmey's death, Dawn adds: "I cried and cried for days. I'd sit there thinking about all the times we spent together, all the laughter we shared. The days on the Street. The charity work we did together. The holidays our two families shared".

"In some ways I was happy for Bill. My God, did I see him suffer, especially on our final few months on Corrie. He used to get so tired and out of breath."

Tarmey had a number of health problems after suffering two heart attacks and a stroke during his career.

"Bill wasn't afraid of death and he was a great believer in ghosts" Dawn tells the newspaper. "I have a desk in my room where I do a lot of writing. Since Bill died, I swear I have felt like someone is watching me.

"I know he will be waiting for me when it is my time to go. I hope he is waiting at the gates of heaven."

Cyrus: I put fiancé ahead of my career

Miley Cyrus has opened up about her love life in a new interview, insisting that albums will come and go, but she puts her fiancé Liam Hemsworth first.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, the Disney star turned pop princess talks about her new music, her relationship and rivalry in the business.

"Number one is my relationship with Liam", the 20 year-old actress and singer announces in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan. "That's what I feel the most confident in because you never know; there's so much hype behind my new record, but it could come out and, worst-case scenario, everyone f***ing hates it".

Cyrus gushes about her husband-to-be throughout the interview. The pair met while filming The Last Song in the summer of 2009. In June of last year, Cyrus announced that the couple had become engaged.

The couple have been under intense media scrutiny, but Cyrus says that "some of the worst things that have happened in my career, like things getting leaked, have actually been what's best for me".

She continues: "because people knew when I was on that show that I was really growing up. I never faked anything. I never played the Disney game of smiling and being a princess and then suddenly having a hard time, saying, 'That isn't who I really am'".

When asked about rivalry between current popular female singers, she adds: "If Katy sticks with being Katy, and Ke$ha is Ke$ha, and Rihanna is Rihanna, and I'm me, there's room for everybody. The problem is when people look at Gaga and say, 'Oh, that works. I'm going to be like that'".

Cyrus is preparing to release her first album in three years, having released Can't Be Tamed in 2010. "It's almost like being a new artist and trying to make a first impression" she explains.

"I think the best thing I could have done was take those two years off to really live, because now people don't think of me as who I was on the TV show."

Irish doc scoops Sundance top prize

Irish documentary The Summit has scooped one of the top prizes at the Sundance Film Festival in the USA.

The award for editing went to the documentary that tells the tragic story of Irish climber Ger McDonnell, who was killed attempting to climb K2 along with his fellow mountaineers.

Producer Olivia Leahy said that their film caught the judges' attention by "telling the story from each of the climbers' points of view, and keeping the emotion in it, that people died on the mountain that day, as well as all the controversies."

Fruitvale, a film about a notorious US police shooting of an unarmed black man, won the top prize. The movie - by rookie director Ryan Coogler - took the US drama Grand Jury award, as well as the US drama audience award.

The Grand Jury prize for a foreign drama went to Jiseul by South Korea's Muel O, while Cambodian Kalyanee Mam's A River Changes Course took the Grand Jury prize for a foreign documentary.

The makers of a film about Russia's Pussy Riot feminist group, which took a Special Jury prize, used their acceptance speech to hail the cause and rally support for its three members jailed in Moscow last year.

Peter Smith - who appeared in Popstars: The Rivals and also toured with Westlife - comes on the show to audition and say hello to Kian.

Niamh also admits that she suffered from stage fright. "I was very, very nervous, but a bit of nerves is good in a way," she says.

"I was grand once I got into the second verse but really nervous for the first verse."

Tune in to see Niamh, Peter, and the other Voice of Ireland hopefuls in the next episode, airing on RTÉ One at 6:30pm tomorrow night, Sunday 27th January.

X Factor's Rylan wins CBB

Though he didn't manage to get to the finals of the singing competition, Rylan Clark came up trumps last night by being crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother.

The bookies' favourite before and during the series to take the crown, Clark fended off stiff competition from reality heavyweights Spencer and Heidi Pratt, Claire Richards, Ryan Moloney, and Razor Ruddock.

Neil 'Razor' Ruddock left the house in fifth place last night, followed quickly by Steps singer Claire Richards in fourth.

Richards condemned the actions of 'Speidi', as the couple were dubbed, during tasks in the series, calling them "heartless and spiteful".

After Neighbours star Ryan Moloney was evicted in third, it was revealed that Speidi finished runners-up behind Clark. The couple, who first found fame on MTV reality show The Hills, spoke to host Brian Dowling about their experience, calling it "just a job for us".

"We went in to try and be the most entertaining we could be. I didn't come here to meet any new friends", Spencer explained. "We came here to be champion... If we didn't get this reaction we didn't do our jobs properly".

After breaking down in tears upon hearing the results of the final, Clark spoke to Dowling, saying "I'm glad for my mother's sake because when I was on X Factor, she went through hell".

"The reason I came on this show is to show people who got me wrong. You can call me whatever you want, but don't ever call me fake" the 24 year-old singer added.

Late Late hosting music showcase

The Late Late Show is launching a brand new initiative giving emerging Irish acts a chance to appear on the biggest show on Irish Television.

In its 50 year history The Late Late Show has prided itself on its support of Irish music and has played host to best selling Irish acts including U2, The Dubliners, Westlife, Daniel O'Donnell and Imelda May. Many of these acts acknowledge the importance of The Late Late Show as a catalyst in their career.

"I couldn't believe the reaction", Imelda May said following her Late Late debut. "People were stopping me in the streets, record shops were ordering my album and promoters wanted to book me for gigs. It was a real turning point in my career."

In recent years artists such as The Coronas, Maverick Sabre and music's hottest property The Strypes have used the show as a launch pad for their careers.

Now this opportunity has been made even more accessible for emerging talent. You don't have to have a manager, a publicist or a record company. All you have to do is simply submit a YouTube video directly to the show. Acts will be selected from these submissions to appear on RTÉ's flagship show.

"The Late Late Show has always supported Irish music... Everyone who is anyone started there", adds Louis Walsh. "This new idea is great. Irish acts deserve support. I hope other TV programmes follow their lead."

How to apply: Email a YouTube link of one song to the special email address - thelatelateshowcase@rte.ie - together with a brief blurb about your act (100 words) and a contact number.

RTÉ's Morning Edition to debut on Monday

Morning Edition, RTÉ's new live morning mix of news, sport, business, topical discussion and entertainment, begins on RTÉ One and the new digital News channel, RTÉ News Now, on Monday January 28 at 9:00am.

Presented by Keelin Shanley, Morning Edition will air Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN, award-winning journalist Shanley said: "It's a whole new challenge. It's very exciting because you can still do the heavier stories, the stories of the day - there's not really anything you're going to have to cut out of this programme.

"But equally, you get to cover new areas. And I have worked in lighter areas before: my first job in RTÉ was doing film reviews on a daytime show. So it is exciting to get back to the live television thing."

You can watch Taragh Loughrey-Grant's interview with Keelin Shanley by clicking the link on your left.

Speaking to the RTÉ Guide about the new programme, Morning Edition producer and editor Anthony Murnane said: "It will have a bit of everything. It will have a spine that is news-based but this is morning television so the topics for discussion will be many. We are trying to attract a new audience to RTÉ in the morning."

He added: "We won't be doing fashion or cookery or astrology. But if there's a news story about a key Irish fashion designer we will cover that."

Washington doesn't mingle with movie stars

Flight star Denzel Washington has said that he feels like an outsider in Hollywood because he doesn't have any "movie star friends".

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, the 58-year-old actor, said: "Even within the industry, I don't have any actor friends. My friends are old friends. One's an ex-music guy, the other's a restaurant owner and the other's an ex pro ballplayer... I don't make friends. Maybe I'm not a butt-kisser, maybe I'm not a schmoozer. I'm not about to go to a party to try to get a job.

"And then, when you have children, the other friends become other parents. We'd coach baseball or basketball. My wife and I were raised right. I don't want movie star friends."

Flight hits cinemas on February 1.

Marr attacks Dublin this March

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 24 Januari 2013 | 23.37

Former Smiths guitarist and proud second generation Irishman Johnny Marr plays Dublin this March in support of his debut solo album, The Messenger.

He plays The Academy, Dublin on March 27th. Tickets priced at €24.50 are on sale this Friday, 25th January at 9am from Ticketmaster outlets and online from www.ticketmaster.ie

Marr releases The Messenger on February 22. Naturally his universally-recognised guitar playing will feature but he also takes on vocal and production duties on a set which includes new songs I Want The Heartbeat, European Me, Word Starts Attack, and The Right Thing Right (bit Noel Gallagher that one).

The Messenger was mastered at Abbey Road by Frank Artwright who recently collaborated with Marr on the re-mastering for The Smiths' box set Complete.

Marr: Get The Messenger

"The underlying idea of the record is my experience of growing up in Europe," says Marr, who has recently moved back to Manchester after seven years in Portland, Oregon. "When you're away from your home city you're more compelled to write about it, whether that's because you're homesick or you've got more objectivity, I don't know. Growing up in the city influences you, and I've continued to see, stories and energy in it."

Marr's former friend and sparring partner Morrissey has released a string of solo albums since The Smiths broke up in 1987 while the guitarist continued his career as an official member or touring guitarist for acts such as The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse and The Cribs. He's also appeared on albums by the Pet Shop Boys, John Frusciante, Talking Heads and Beck.

Last year Trinity College named Marr as an Honorary Patron of the University Philosophical Society alongside past patrons such as Oscar Wilde, Samuel Beckett and Bram Stoker.
